In 1995 Dianne Doherty, Sally Livingston, and Martha Richards traveled to the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, in Beijing, China, to learn about the plight of the world's women. Their experience inspired them to create the Women's Fund of Western Massachusetts in 1997. The premise was, and still is, to mobilize significant resources to address the pressing needs of women and girls in our region.
The year 2007 marked the 10th anniversary of the incorporation of the Women's Fund of Western Massachusetts. As a fund whose endowment has grown through the efforts of thousands of local women and their belief in our vision and mission of social change philanthropy, we are proud to say that during our first 10 years, we awarded over $1.2 million in grant awards to 95 organizations in Western Massachusetts.
Our new goal is to award another $1 million in half that time, by the year 2012. We hope you will join us in this important work.
